Facelift (Full and Lower)
The goal of a face lift is to achieve a natural, more youthful appearance. The key is to reverse the affects of aging. Your basic look is not changed, but a younger appearance is restored. The cheeks are elevated, folds are flattened, jowls removed, the neck is tightened, excess skin is removed, and fat is sculpted.
There are several variations of full or lower face-lifts. Skin-only face-lifts were popular many years ago and are still used in select situations. Today, in most instances, face lifts involve more than just tightening the skin. The muscles are also tightened and the fat sculpted to restore the face to a more youthful appearance. Dr. Sternschein believes that it is most important to achieve a natural look. He will not give you an over tightened or "wind swept look". By concentrating tension on the deeper structures and paying close attention to the direction of pulling, excessive tightening of skin is not necessary. Incisions can now be placed inside the ear so they are hardly visible. Sutures are removed over a period of days as you heal. The amount of swelling is variable, but most patients can resume normal activities within a week and should show very few signs of their procedure by two weeks.
Mini Facelifts (S-lifts, Lunchtime Lifts, Weekend Lifts)
For some patients a full face lift is not necessary. When the signs of aging are minimal or confined to jowls and cheeks, a "mini lift" or “S-lift” may be indicated. "Mini lift" is used to describe many different procedures. In general, all of these techniques are less involved than a full face lift. Incisions are shorter, there is less surgical manipulation, and local anesthesia alone may be used. Recuperation is relatively rapid, with minimal swelling and bruising. A mini lift is a excellent, simple, refreshing procedure for many patients. Dr. Sternschein will tell you whether a "mini lift" is right for you and what kind of results you can expect.
Neck Lifts and Liposuction of the Neck
"Turkey gobbler" neck refers to hanging skin and fat under the chin. This problem is caused by excess skin, loose muscles, and/or excess fat. Neck lifts are procedures that specifically address these deformities. Depending on your situation, Dr. Sternschein may recommend liposuction only, a combination of liposuction and muscle tightening, or a lower facelift. These procedures usually require simple outpatient surgery with minimal recovery. Tightening neck skin and achieving a more youthful profile will significantly improve your overall appearance.
